35thWFOT Council Meeting and Congress Top

The 35th WFOT Council Meeting from August 23 to 26 and the 35th WFOT Congress from August 28 to 31, 2022 were successfully convened in Paris Convention Center, Paris, France. After 2008 Council Meeting at Slovenia, India remained unrepresented in WFOT Council Meetings. The WFOT Council Meeting 2022 was attended by me as WFOT Delegate and Second Alternate Delegate Dr. Joseph Sunny. Many issues were raised by Indian representatives as agenda items, which were sent well in advance by abiding the protocol. India succeeded in getting a issuance of WFOT Individual Membership Certificate through their account on the WFOT website. The All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA) was pursuing this agenda in WFOT Council Meeting since 2008. Earlier WFOT had no such provision for the issuance of membership certificates to individual members which was strongly presented and continuously pursued by AIOTA. The agenda for the inclusion of first contact and/or referral for OT practice from India were also discussed and are pending a decision for want of more discussion. The agenda requesting affiliation of MOT education on WFOT-listed education programs could not be accepted. WFOT has a clear policy that only entry-level education programs will be affiliated with WFOT irrespective of the fact that the program commenced is of UG or PG level.

President AIOTA Dr. Anil Srivastava was honored with a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding contributions to WFOT as WFOT Delegate for the past many years. India received wide appreciation and regards from delegates from member countries in the council meeting. Indian delegates had interactions with many delegates from member countries on significant professional issues. It is a matter of great pride for the country that occupational therapy education system, professional recognition, and clinical practice in India are one of the best and are not less than any developed countries globally. A strong need was felt that WFOT Council Meetings must be attended by Indian Delegates to project the image of occupational therapy professionals from India at an international platform.

  World OT Day 2022 Top

“Optimising Life: Occupational Therapy” is the theme offered by AIOTA for celebrating World OT Day and OT India Month for the year 2022. World Occupational Therapy Day and OT India Month is undoubtedly great way to promote and celebrate our profession around the country. I am confident that this year too, OT Day and AIOTA's OT India Month will be celebrated with great enthusiasm by members, institutions, and branches throughout the country.

“Opportunity + Choice = Justice” is the WFOT theme for World OT Day 2022. It was announced by WFOT during the Council Meeting in Paris. It is focused to demonstrate how occupational therapy offers greater opportunity and choice to promote a more open and just society.

I am pleased to convey my best wishes to the members of AIOTA, institutions, and branches on OT Day and OT India Month.

Fourth Fellowship in Advanced Occupational Therapy Top

The Academic Council of Occupational Therapy is geared up to begin the AIOTA's 9 months' duration 4th Fellowship program in Advanced Occupational Therapy. The topic chosen is neuropsychiatric disorders. The 3rd Fellowship program was successfully convened on musculoskeletal, hand, and ergonomics. The 4th Fellowship program will be commenced from December 2022 to August 2023. The main objective of this fellowship program is to identify, administer, and interpret appropriate comprehensive, standardized advanced OT assessment followed with the management of patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. It will further promote research in the area; impart organizational, and administrative skills to OT practitioners. The AIOTA's fellowship programs in the different areas of clinical practice are aimed to enhance the knowledge base and clinical skills of postgraduate occupational therapy practitioners which are backed by expert supervision and evidence-based practice guidelines. The resource faculties from India and overseas in the subject areas are selected for didactic as well as web-based learning. AIOTA's Fellowship programs enriched with high academic standards are emphatically welcomed by the members of AIOTA.
