  OTICON'2023 Top


OTICON'2023: The 60th annual national conference of All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA) will be held on 3rd to 5th February, 2023 which is organized by Saveetha College of Occupational Therapy, SIMATS, Chennai. Theme of the conference is “Multi-Disciplinary to Inter- Disciplinary Approach: Occupational Therapy Practice”.   Fellowship Program in Neuro Psychiatric Disorders Top


After the successful completion of AIOTA's 3rd Fellowship program, Academic Council of Occupational Therapy (ACOT) has planned for the 4th Annual Fellowship program on Advanced Occupational Therapy on Neuro Psychiatric Disorders (FAOT:NPD) which will be conducted from December 2022 to August 2023. The Program is accredited by Santosh Deemed to be University, NCR, Delhi. For further details, kindly visit www.aiota.org.


  Placement Abroad Top


A total of 15 Postgraduates of the SRM College of Occupational Therapy, Chennai have been selected as occupational therapists for the city of Pleasanton in South California. The students having got placements for salary package of approximately ₹58 lakh per annum, and were selected through a recruitment agency Ed Theory.


  NCAHP Updates Top


Ministry of Health & Family Welfare invited the applications for the post of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of National Commission for the Allied and Health Care Professions. A Meeting with Health secretaries of all states will be held under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 9th November 2022 to discuss the issues relating to constitution of state allied and healthcare council under NCAHP Act, 2021 at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.


  OT Day and AIOTA's OT India Month Celebrations Top


World Occupational Therapy Day (27th October) and Occupational Therapy India month (27th October -26th November) is being celebrated across the country. Theme of the World Occupational Therapy Day is 'Opportunities + Choices = Justice' and theme for the OT India month is 'Optimizing Life: Occupational Therapy'.

Maharashtra State council has planned for the public awareness on occupational therapy from October 19th to 15th November 2022 on Print media and television channels.

Nagpur Branch of All India Occupational Therapists' Association in collaboration with Academic Council of Occupational Therapy, AIOTA organized a continuing occupational therapy education program on “Feeding in Neonates and Infants” at VIMS Hospital, Nagpur on 5th and 6th of November 2022. Dr. Shailaja Jaywant, Faculty from SION Hospital was the Resource Person.

Department of Occupational Therapy at Government Medical College, Nagpur conducted a Breast cancer awareness and rehabilitation camp in collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr.Narlawar, Vice Dean and Dr.Rohini Patil graced the occasion with their presence.

SRM college of occupational therapy, Kattankulathur campus organized 4 outreach programs at PHCs and Schools. One day COTE program on Occupational Therapy Intervention in Individuals with Dementia on 28th October 2022 at SRM university. The COTE program was inaugurated by Dr. Lt. Col. A. Ravikumar, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University and the chief guest Dr. Jyothika Bijlani, Dean, ACOT, All India Occupational Therapists Association. Dr. Odette M. Gomes, Former Professor and Head O.T School & Centre, TNMC & BYL Nair Ch. Hospital, Mumbai delivered Guest of honor address.Dr. Odette M. Gomes, Former Professor and Head, OT School Centre, TNMC & BYL Nair Ch. Hospital, Mumbai, one of the pioneers in the field was the invited speaker.

The Kerala Chapter of All India Occupational Therapists' Association proudly hosted the “World Occupational Therapy Day” at Mascot Hotel, Trivandrum. The event was inaugurated by the Hon. Minister of Higher Education and Social Justice Dr. R Bindu. The event also honored members for their selfless contributions to the field of Occupational Therapy. The lifetime achievement awardee Annie George, Academic Excellence awardees and Professional Excellence awardees were honored by the minister. Teaching Faculty and BOT Students of National Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (NIPMR), Thrissur and National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), Trivandrum and Members of Kerala OT Association participated enthusiastically with active contributions.

TNAIOTA has conduction awareness campaigns across the state on 27th October 2022. TNAIOTA office bearers led by the convener Dr. Raghuram P. met the State Health Minister on World Occupational Therapy Day requesting his attention in formation of State council under NCAHP act and various other concerns of the profession in the state. It also organized a live talk show on Instagram for 12 hours. Thirty seven occupational therapy experts spoke to create awareness about occupational therapy services. Dean, ACOT appreciated the efforts of organizing team and the speakers in the valedictory program. Talk Show was coordinated by Dr. Vishnu L, Dr. Daisy Swapna P and Dr. Sreedevi R. The Event was observed and registered as world record by occupational therapy profession by Lincoln Book of Records.

WFOT Bulletin Call for Papers - Occupational Therapy and Assistive Technology

The WFOT Bulletin welcomes submissions across a wide spectrum of assistive technology research and practice in occupational therapy, including papers that explore different socio-economic-cultural settings and challenge pre-existing paradigms. Contributions may take the form of commentary, analysis and research from various disciplinary vantage points, from the theoretical to the applied. The deadline for submissions is 30 November 2022. More information is available on the WFOT website.


  Training in Assistive Products (TAP) Top


WFOT contributed to the development of a new free online interactive learning resource offered by WHO for training in the provision of assistive products. TAP will be launched on November 10 with a webinar and Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Designed as a pre-entry level or continuing education resource to enable the provision of assistive products safely and effectively, TAP initially will be available in 10 languages, with more languages and content to be added over time.
